Laura is an abstract acrylic painter based in Palm Desert, California. Born and raised in suburban Chicago, she endured long, dreary winters before relocating to the desert—an experience she describes as stepping out of a black-and-white movie into technicolor. The sudden explosion of color, combined with the stillness and spaciousness of the landscape, inspired her to begin painting.
Drawing from her love of mid-century modern design, architecture, music, and fashion, Laura’s work blends retro-futuristic aesthetics with contemporary abstraction. Her geometric, hard-edged compositions seek a harmonic balance of color, line, form, and space—an equilibrium that mirrors the stillness she finds through meditation and expresses through her art.
Though her educational background is in communication studies and journalism, Laura has long been drawn to the visual arts and has worked briefly in the film and design industries. She has also studied sound and color healing, recognizing how color and its varied frequencies can influence well-being—an awareness that subtly informs her relationship with color and its expressive potential.
Laura’s practice often begins digitally using Procreate, which allows for an immediate call-and-response with color and composition. Meditation remains an intrinsic part of her creative process, helping to clear space for intuition to guide each facet of her work.
Through her art, Laura invites viewers into a luminous, technicolor world where balanced, color-driven compositions celebrate both stillness and vitality, evoking joy, optimism, and calm.
